Molly is devoted to keeping us safe, especially from squirrels and rabbits! Every day she is on high alert. One never knows when a sneak attack might occur. She is nothing less than vigilant and we are nothing less than grateful.

99% ordinary

Ninety-nine percent of the time my life is ordinary. That’s true for both my spiritual life and my married life. That doesn’t mean that things aren’t good, or at times even very good. But typically, they are far from extraordinary. Most days there’s no spectacular sizzle in my marriage and there’s no overwhelming sense of intimate connection with my Lord. Read more »

Quiet The Power of Introverts

Sometimes I talk too much. Ever since reading Susan Cain’s enlightening book: Quiet: The Power Of Introverts In A World That Can’t Stop Talking, I can’t stop pondering her insights. I’ve now not only read and reviewed the book, I’ve repeatedly recommended it. I’ve even gifted it to a few highly–gifted introverts I happen to know. Read more »

You’re probably not as smart as you think you are! Studies are now documenting that computers are not making us smarter. In fact, it’s just the opposite. It turns out that the act of physically writing things down helps us to better remember. Yes, that means actually writing long-hand with a pen … assuming we still know how! Read more »

An Unhurried Life

I’m usually in a hurry . . . and worse yet, I’m proud of it! Hardly a day goes by that I don’t have an agenda that includes a list of important things to do and people to bless. That’s why when I roll out of bed in the morning I immediately hit my knees with a simple groggy prayer, “Lord, help me to invest this day and enjoy it! Read more »

Wallace and Mary

I’ve once again been rubbing shoulders with two powerful world changers! When three other pastors (Dick Alexander, Tim Harlow, Eddie Lowen) and I made our first trip to the slums of Nairobi in 2007, we were stunned. The darkness, filth and poverty were overwhelming. Yet, what amazed us even more was the astonishing, light-shining work of Missions of Hope led by Wallace and Mary Kamau. Read more »

AHA by Kyle Idleman

I enjoyed several “AHA moments” again this week in Florida. It never ceases to amaze me how frequently this happens when leaders press the pause button to get away together. These semi-annual Covenant Group gatherings are both unforgettable and transformational. We all hunger for a life that is deeper and better. But how does that happen? Read more »

The Paradox of Generosity

Are you rich? I’ll never forget the single mom that said, “I love giving because it makes me feel so rich!” Most people can’t relate to that. We all know of those who have many assets but live with the fear that it might somehow be taken away. Ironically, some with the most enjoy peace the least; while others with less enjoy peace the most. How do you explain it?
Generosity isn’t first a matter of income or assets, but one of attitude. One of the fascinating books I’ve just enjoyed is entitled: “The Paradox of Generosity”. The authors defined generosity as: “The virtue of giving good things to others freely and abundantly.” Read more »

Soul brothers

How many in depth connections do you have? The truth is we all know tons of people, but at best we’re fully known by just a few. There aren’t many on this planet that know me better than my buddy Cam Huxford. In fact, I’ve known and loved Cam for longer than his wife Sarah has! We’ve enjoyed a no-holds-barred, in-depth connection for over forty years. Read more »

Give and Take by Adam Grant

Generosity is contagious! One of the intriguing books I spotted in an airport last year is entitled Give and Take. What the author suggests is that there are three types of people: Givers, Takers and Matchers. Read more »

"We were able to spend a week at Blessing Ranch Ministries. It was an amazing week! . . . . We learned SO much during this week. It was a great opportunity for rest, reflection, prayer, reading and seeking wise counsel. We were blessed beyond words! Each day we would have sessions with Dr. Walker, time to reflect, homework (a lot of reading), and amazing dinners each night. . . I grew so much in my personal faith journey during this week." Missionary, Dominican Republic
"Just wanted to say a quick note of thanks to you for jumpstarting our road to recovery. You told me before we went there that Blessing Ranch Ministries was a place of miracles, and we totally agree with you. God used you to begin our healing process, and for that I’m so thankful." Missions and Outreach Pastor, Illinois
"I was burned out, overwhelmed, and anxious when I arrived at the Blessing Ranch Ministries; I left feeling validated and hopeful, with a deeper awareness of who God is and who I am." Youth Pastor, Wisconsin
